“Jesus Never Condemned Therapeutic Abortion” – Say What?
by Cathy Ruse

So says the slogan spread by “Catholics” for Choice in Nicaragua and El Salvador to overturn laws in those countries restricting abortion.
This pro-abortion propaganda effort is in anticipation of what will be one of the most heavily attended U.N. conferences this year: The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), a gathering of radical feminists, from all points on the globe, with so-called “reproductive rights” as its centerpiece.
Samantha Singson reports in C-Fam’s Friday Fax that groups like “Catholics” for Choice and other NGOs (non-governmental organizations) are circulating declarations to present to delegations who attend the event in New York on March 1-12. This so-called Catholic group demands “the immediate restitution of therapeutic abortion” in Nicaragua and, in El Salvador, “the restitution of law that guaranty therapeutic, ethical and eugenical [sic] abortion.”
Singson writes that this year’s CSW is particularly significant because it is the fifteenth anniversary of the Beijing Conference on Women where advocates tried, but failed, to establish an international “right” to abortion on demand. She reports that abortion is a matter of frequent debate among member states at this conference, where delegates attempt to sneak into conference documents ambiguous language that can later be used as a platform for such a right.
Against all odds, pro-life forces have defeated their efforts year in and year out. WWJD at the CSW? Maybe He’s been doing it all along.

Mr. Counterstrike:
FYI, the reason the word abortion does NOT appear in the gospels is because the ancient Hebrew Jewish culture had sense enough not to have abortions. They recognized that children were a blessing from God. Jesus spent His whole life immersed in a Jewish country and a Jewish culture. The Hebrew people (at that time) were so in agreement on this issue that abortion wasn’t even discussed much. There was no debate, it was just understood among them that you don’t do this. This is one of the rare times that Jews have been known to agree with each other on anything.
This is why Jesus didn’t mention abortion in the gospels. I’m sure if you connect with Him today and ask Him what He thinks of abortion, He would tell you in no uncertain terms that He doesn’t like it.
It wasn’t until some time after Jesus ascended to heaven, that the early church fathers needed to write about abortion. It had become common enough to be an issue. They wrote in a document, that didn’t make it into the Bible, not to slay your child by abortion or kill that which is begotten. It’s shaped by God and has received a soul. If it’s slain, God will avenge it as being unjustly destroyed. Do you want to take a chance on that?
Also, there are numerous parts in the Bible that condemn killing, murder, and the shedding of innocent blood. If you recognize a fetus is an innocent human, these verses would definitely cover abortion. So abortion is condemned in the Bible indirectly.
Ceecee,
Ancient Hebrews disagree with each other and God on lots of stuff (read the Old Testament). They most certainly had abortions just as Jews in recent history do.
The notion that a zygote is human did not exist until very, very recently (and is widely disregarded). Historically, a woman would not recognize life in the womb until about 20 weeks (when movement is detected). In many societies, an infant would not even be named until it survived at least a year (newborns died frequently and so would not be regarded a part of society).
Maybe Jesus didn’t talk about abortions because he had far more pressing issues to address (e.g. love, salvation). Maybe Tony should follow the example of Jesus: focus on living kids that need help with education, health, homes and shut-up about abortion.
The fact is that abortion is no more a reproductive right than taxation is equal for all – The rich or privilege use it as a “month after pill” when they chose not to take preventative measures while the poor end up having children because the options aren’t as readily available. Thus, the “reproductive right” is more of an expensive contraceptive. Though it goes against my religious conscience, the real reproductive right should be in allowing contraceptives & education in schools to help prevent unwanted pregnancies. Abortions should only be allowed for MEDICAL reasons when the life of the mother or the child are in danger. If you don’t want to drive drunk, then don’t drink or drive; If you don’t want a baby, then try preventing it before having sex. Of course that is more reproductive common sense than it is a reproductive right. And that is the problem with our country today – no one wants to be held accountable anymore for their actions. Just have a procedure and walk away guilt free. This coming from a person who was adopted & thanks God every day someone knew the difference.
The Bible also does not report that Jesus said anything against bestiality, necrophilia, polygamy, child brides, or heroin.
I guess we could use that ‘argument of omission’ to make all of that acceptable too?
Rev Newt said “shut up about abortion.” There it is again. Once again the pro-aborts try to silence those who disagree with them.
Let see, My will or God’s will ? Those who practice casual sex, have unplanned pregnancies……….even in marriage. The problem with contraception is it is a grave mortal sin. It is “contrary ” to life as God intended. Besides it(“safe sex”) is the gateway to promiscuity & disease, pregnancy, higher suicide rates, higher incidents of addiction & abusive relationships. Abstinence is perfect & proven time & again scientifically. (not my opinion) Not ideologically though with progressives & liberals. Their pagan hedonism trumps science. Abortion is just “safe sex with a trump card. Doesn’t change God or truth. Most countries that are ahead of the USA in life expectancy (36 of them) do not considered a child (human) unless it is 1 day old, or 1 year old, or wanted period. . based on the culture or stat person’s inclusion. It is excluded from the mortality column if it is killed or did not fit the official dictate.. WOW!
22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.
– part of the Mosaic Law as given in Exodus 21, KJV, showing that from very early times among the Hebrews the unborn – or zygote, or embryo, or whatever else you want to call it – was indeed recognized as “life in the womb” – as a potential human being that would otherwise have blessed the family it was coming into had it not been miscarried.
There are also uncountable references throughout the entire Bible, beginning with “multiply and replenish the earth” in its first chapter, that refer to children as a blessing AND as a responsibility, that refer to childbearing as a good, and that strictly govern the means by which that precious childbearing power is employed (ie fornication and adultery strictly forbidden).
So, I would like to know by what authority Rev Newt declares that Jesus had more pressing matters than “Thou shalt not kill”…?
Hi, Folks, blogers, those who feel strongly about this subject or just want to sound off and feel important:
Jesus never condemns. He speaks truth in love. His main “weapon” is Love.
He loves Little Children and said we must become like them in order to join Him in His Heavenly Home. The over 2000 year old book full of Inspired truth has much to say about how many children is enough. I think there is a song about how much He loves children– it says they are precious to Him. They should be to all His children.
I work with children at the church. They really are precious, and beautiful.
Do yourself a favor and hug a kid. You will be equally blessed.
Most certainly our country is reaping the seeds we have sewn for so many years. God, in His patience and Love for us, had his protection over us for a lot longer than I would have. Those who still support the pro-choice position are doing so irresponsibly and at their own peril. They are also totally selfish. There is no need for abortion…in most cases, try putting the baby up for adoption. As of the moment of conception, there is life…a child with their own unique DNA, blood type, and RIGHT TO LIFE. Most abortions are executed in order to protect a woman’s independence and not get in the way of her future ambitions. Purely Selfish. Purely Evil. Anyone involved in promoting such a cause will assuredly be dealt with by a Just God.

Hmm. I search the Gospels for the word “abortion” and I don’t get any hits.
Looks like Jesus REALLY never condemned theraputic abortion!
