President Obama Wins Nobel Peace Prize for…funding abortions overseas?
by Cathy Ruse
October 9, 2009
It was announced this morning that President Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize.
Reuters reports that The Norwegian Nobel Committee praised Obama for “his
extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation
between peoples.”
But this prize was apparently awarded *prospectively*, since the nomination
deadline for the prize came less than two weeks after Obama took office.
So what actions did Obama as President take before the February 1st deadline
that gave the committee such assurance of his future worthiness of the
prize?
On January 20 he called for the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act and
declared his intention to give multiple rights and privileges to homosexual
couples.
On January 22 he issued an order announcing his intention to close
Guantanamo Bay.
On January 23 he issued an order authorizing tax dollars for abortions
abroad.
As Michael Novak wrote in National Review Online at the time: “These first
steps were unworthy of a great nation and unworthy of a serious leader.”
Mother Teresa called abortion the greatest destroyer of peace. But
according to the Nobel committee, forcing taxpayers to fund it gets you a
peace prize.

It shows how rediculously stupid the people are who give out this honor. One year it was a possibility to award a very worthy soul, named Irena Sandler who had rescued many Jewish children in the holocaust, but instead it was given to Al Gore, for his “saving the earth campaign” (whatever that means?).
What a travesty! At least we now know just how much import the “Peace” prize actually has.
I appears that the Nobel Committee has become a political toy devoid of conscience, values and common sense. I used to believe they took time to make wise choices that stood for the good of humanity. Their last few selections have proven that to be untrue. Their “awards” have no meaning and they no longer have my respect.
Had I only known there was a Nobel Prize for doing nothing of worth!
This travesty leads me to think that the whole Nobel prize awards system is devalued. It lowers it to a mere political award with little meaning or sincerity.
It once was and honor to win the Nobel Peace Prize, people like Mother Theresa who actually had done something. It just shows who’s running the show now, a bunch of liberals trying to get control any way they can. It is and outrage that Pres. Obama received this award for doing nothing. I rest my case.
Of all the DECENT people who could have gotten that Nobel Peace , how could they give it to OBAMA??????? WHAT A TRAVESTY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It appears that our President of the United States of America has been bought by an award. This is a sad moment created by the Nobel Peace Prize committee. The awards are now meaningless. I am saddened by such foolishness. I was in shock when I heard the news. A sign of the times.
I think first of all it was pre-mature of the committe to even have him in consideration for such, why doesn’t anyone wait until the ‘Proof is actually evident ??” I do not agree with his getting it, I don’t know if the other ‘world leaders would think he is worthy of such as well .’ He should not have gotten it until the ‘Peace is actually flourishing in the countries that are still at war. !!!!! Not before anything of that nature has actually taken place. After all, wasn’t it Bush in office when they took down the statue of the dictator ? Shouldn’t he have been given the prize at that time, and then again for helping them to get their demacracy started ??? Yes they are still at war, but O. didn’t do anything with regard to the demacratic voting process to be started, he wasn’t in office when the statue came down, he wasn’t in office when the leader was found, and captured, and killed !!! Shouldn’t Bush be the one to get credit, or maybe better yet, the ones in the Military who actually performed those manuvers ? Think about it !!!!
Have lost respect for the Nobel Peace Prize since it was given to Al Gore for a non-existent but natural condition that occurs every so many thousands of year. Giving a peace prize to the prez is a sign of their senility and lack of understanding of what we, the Americans, know about this know nothing, and do nothing right prez.
I don’t think that the Nobel Peace Price is given to truly worthy people, since
not too long ago Yassar Arafat received it and he supported Hamas, a terrorist
group. How much lower could you go?
It’s a good time for Obama to say “I inherited this award”.
Sounds a bit ironic/contradictory. A peace prize for extension of a war from our country, to others, on the most innocent. The unborn human child. But we really ought to save the smelt. I say we save them both. Stop funding the slaughter of fellow humans/tax payers. And built a desalinization plant along the 800 miles of California coastline. So both farmers/citizens have enough water. And animals also.
What a travesty on the word peace! World war on the unborn is not peace.
This prize should not surprise anyone after the Nobel peace committee voted for Al (the inventor of the internet–ho ho) Gore instead of Mother Teresa, a saint who did so much good for the world.
Obama’s actions, even before being elected by blind, liberal Americans, have shown disdain for anything that stands for Judeo-Christian moral values. Just look at his record in the dirty Stoger political machine of Chicago, his record in the Illinois legislature, and his insignificant short-lived career as an Illinois U.S. senator; and you will have enough factual evidence to convict him of infant genocide, indifference toward the unborn child, and even to premature children who survived outside the womb in Illinois. He has in no manner earned a Nobel Prize for peace when his political career blatantly shows his selfish, cavalier attitude that advocates the violent, shameless destruction of every unborn American child. The Nobel Prize committee must have an amoral standard or no moral standard. What a shame!
I think a person should win the Prize for something they have DONE, not something they have TALKED about doing. I also think he should run for the Pres of the EU. He has apologized for America long enough.
The Novel Peace Award has been reduced to a Boy Scout Badge.
Maybe the Norwegians think that trashing your country’s Christian heritage in order to gain points with Muslims is a good way to make peace. Obama wants to be a Christain when it’s convenient (ie., trying to get the conservative vote), but distances himself from Christ and calls on Allah in order to appease our enemies. Isn’t that called a chameleon?
The “Odacity” of it all!
Shameful, repugnant, blashphemous!
Unbelievable, ridiculous, reprehensible!
Fire them all…(Nobel committee).
After the Nobel Peace Prize Committe awarded Yassar Arafat the prize, I lost complete respect for their choices. My first thought after reading that Obama was awarded the prize was, “How much were they paid to nominate him? And who paid them?” He does not deserve a “peace” prize for supporting enmity between the sacred relationship of mother and child. He does not deserve a “peace” prize for supporting the nonsense of same gender marriage, thus denigrating another sacred relationship of a man and a woman in marriage. He does not deserve the “peace” prize for supporting legislation that puts dollar figure on the value of human life, saying that end-of-life care is “too expensive.” [Just wait until he, his mom, his wife, his children or other relations are "old." Let's see how fast he wants to terminate their care and their life due to "expense."] To read that the nominations closed two weeks after B. H . Obama took office was shocking. This committee should be busted, boycotted and booed.
The more I read about this, the more it is clear that the Nobel committee did this explicitly to give Obama more soft power and international standing, in order that he *might* achieve something to make the world more peaceful. I had already lost a lot of respect for the Nobel Peace Prize after they awarded it to Jimmy Carter, so it didn’t totally catch me by surprise that this happened.
Clearly, our country is in trouble. When are we all going to open up our eyes?
I think it is a disgrace to the United States Of American that he got this award.
On president Obama’s winning the peace prize:
He is now in the same classification as Yasser Arafat – the terrorist; and Jimmy Carter – one of the worst presidents America has ever had.
After Yasser Arafat received the Nobel Peace Prize I stopped giving any credible attention to this organization. This organization is so radically left leaning that it is not worthy of attention.
Apparently the Nobel Prize doesn’t mean much anymore.
Let’s compare past winners; Pope John Paul II, Mother Theresa, Barack Obama….which one doesn’t belong?!?!
“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing!”
“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing!”
Yes, and for money and power to rule over love and peace.
I think it is a disgrace when you give a peace award to someone who lets our men in
in combat continue to get killed while he makes up his mind about more troops. He doen’t know the meaning of Christanity. He should be ashamed of the thing he has said about our country.
Why is it they say “Peace Peace” when there is no peace?
I believe this award has been plotted from the getgo to try and further push an agenda which is utterly opposed to the true Prince of Peace. It is at His name that every knee should bow.
This is a further call to intercede for our nation.
Seems that there are others who has fallen into this spell called deception,
Ecclesiastes 10:2 “a wise man’s heart is at his right hand, but a fool’s heart at his left”.
BHO, continues to be the quintessential embodiement of the fabled Peter Principle. Heaping the now meaningless Nobel accolade, (read Arafat, Carter, Gore et. al.) only fuels the hollow ego of a leader(?) who is prone to dictum rather than example.
Since Obama has been in Office I have had to totally rely on the peace that passes all understanding, Jesus Christ. I find nothing peaceful about a man who destroys America with each passing day.
IT PROVES THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE IS WORTHLESS. TAKE CARTER, GORE AND NOW OBAMA…..WHO WOULD WANT TO JOIN THEIR RANKS
President Obama has unfortunately decided to accept a prize for which he did nothing to earn. This action does not honor America; it unfortunately lowers the honor of receiving such a prize instead.

Bans ‘do not cut abortion rate
Restricting the availability of legal abortion does not appear to reduce the number of women trying to end unwanted pregnancies, a major report suggests.
In the developed world, legal restrictions did not stop abortion but just meant it was “exported”, with Irish women for instance simply travelling to Europe, according to Guttmacher’s director, Dr Sharon Camp. In the developing world, it meant lives were put at risk.
“Too many women are maimed or killed each year because they lack legal abortion access,” she said.
Western Europe is held up as an example of what access to contraceptive services can achieve, and the Netherlands – with just 10 abortions per 1,000 women compared to the world’s 29 per 1,000 – is held up as the gold standard.
@Susan Fox. You state, “I find nothing peaceful about a man who destroys America with each passing day.”
I don’t see America being destroyed. We’re recovering from a recession. At least Obama hasn’t invaded a country and lied about the justification for doing so like Bush did. Now that’s destructive.
…oh, and I’m not defending the decision to give Obama the Peace Prize. It was a very bizarre decision. But note, that all US presidents are “nominated” for the peace prize as a routine practice, no matter how long they’ve been in office. They didn’t award the PP to him on Feb 15. Someone nominated him then. No decision was made until much much later. Again, not defending the final decision, but we should be honest about the facts.
This is another example of diminishing the value and honor of what was a very special award. It is like a military person receiving the Purple Heart for cutting their hand while peeling potatoes while still in basic training. This is a disgrace.

I notice that Obama does not know the meaning of the word Chistianity, so, there are no surprises there.
