Perkins on Point: Bearing False Witness on Health Care Reform?

by Tony Perkins
August 21, 2009

President Obama has accused FRC and others who are opposing the government takeover of health care of breaking the 9th commandment. Listen to this (clip).

Really Mr. President – we are bearing false witness.

Mr. President this is what you said in a speech to Planned Parenthood in July of 2007. (Clip or transcript)

And your administration has made it clear that reproductive health care includes abortion (clip of Hillary)

Mr. President since you have taken to quoting scripture. Allow me to quote the words of Jesus, those Red Letters in the New Testament, where He says let your yes be yes and your no be no.

Mr. President if what you say is true, which the present House bill would suggest is not the case when it comes to government funded abortion, why not let your no be no and accept one of the dozen amendments that have been offered that make it clear that abortion will not be a part of the government healthcare plan.

Until you let your yes be yes and your no be no, Mr. President we can not have a true debate about the core ethical and moral obligation of insuring all Americans have access to affordable healthcare – a discuss we look forward to having.

A lie is a lie. I know, Tony, it is hard being called on something when you would rather judge than be judged. Hypocrites, one and all. Jesus is rolling over in his grave.

Obama said, “I know there has been alot of misinformation in this debate.” (How would he KNOW except that he is a major part in giving out the misinformation – in other words, lies. The American public certainly is having a difficult time discerning truth from error. But Obama says he KNOWS.) Obama says, “There are some folks out there who are frankly bearing false witness, but…” (While conservatives understand this attack is directed at them to silence and discredit them, perhaps what is overlooked is this clue: what Obama just said, “some folks are…bearing false witness.” He didn’t specifically mention anyone or group, because actually, he was telling about himself. He was admitting that lies are being told, and what he didn’t say is that he is a major part of giving out those lies. Ever notice how his face will be stern, and then he will grin? He is inwardly laughing about his joke on the American public. It is a common tactic for the instigator in a confrontation, to call his opponent the very thing he is guilty of. Bullies do it on playgrounds. Cheating spouses do it to unsuspecting mates. People in power do it to those they want to control. Obama is all about CONTROL.

I am a Christian and believe many of the actions of your organization is against the true teachings of the faith. Dictating laws on moral behavior is not the way to convince people to turn their eyes towards our loving Savior. It achieves just the opposite. It turns the minds and hearts of people away from the faith because you want to dictate your specific interpretation of Scripture.

Time and time again, Christ teaches through example. He did not gather a large following and march on Rome to convince the Republic to change its laws or enact statures governing moral behavior. He lived it and through his example of charity, grace and humility before G-d, he won the hearts, minds and souls of his followers.

“The Christian Right” seems to have it exactly wrong. So many people I interact with have a negative view of our faith that they don’t want to hear or believe anything good can come out of it. Much of what you say to seems to me to be really well worded venom and while your intentions are good, they distance many people from the Universal Church of Christ.

I know I cannot change your mind, but I pray your heart will find peace. I do not have all the answers… quite the opposite – I’m a sinner and a fool. However, I have found the Holy Spirit speaks all the time, but we can only listen when our heart is full of faith, hope and love. Where there is anger, fear and attempts to control others, HE is not there. Anger, fear and control (a form of pride) belong to the evil one.

May the Peace of the Lord be with you.

Is FRC lobbying hard against private plans? Tricare and most government run plans don’t cover abortion, yet most private plans do. What gives?

Stop your deliberate and cynical distortions of what current healthcare reform legislation does and doesn’t say. You have aired an anti-reform ad making the outrageous claim that under proposed healthcare legislation, abortions would be funded but the elderly would be refused care. Your ad has been thoroughly analyzed and debunked by Factcheck.org (http://www.factcheck.org/2009/07/surgery-for-seniors-vs-abortions/). If they could figure it out, you should be able to as well.

No organization that claims the moral highroad should spend millions of dollars to spread lies that frighten people into opposing reform that will make their lives more secure from a medical and economic standpoint.

You should be ashamed, but it’s clear that’s not your forte.
