<description>The one theme that Mr. Donovan misses is the pinnacle that pushes both the film and the characters from the brink of self-destruction. The supporting cast, including a normally good intentioned rat and a chamber maid, work themselves and the story into a hateful corner, driven by self-pity aimed at the young princess. Despereaux&#039;s success, and ultimately the movie&#039;s success, prevails due to the forgiveness given by the princess. And thankfully, the movie pauses at just that moment to reflect on the power of forgiveness, a Christmas theme that is rarely discussed.
