Heterosexual AIDS Pandemic Won't Happen

25 years after the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, the leader of the World Health Organization's efforts against the disease has finally admitted the obvious--there will be no worldwide AIDS pandemic among the general heterosexual population.

"Whereas once it was seen as a risk to populations everywhere, it was now recognised that, outside sub-Saharan Africa, it was confined to high-risk groups including men who have sex with men, injecting drug users, and sex workers and their clients," reported the British newspaper The Independent, which published an interview with Kevin de Cock of the WHO on June 8

In the article, however, one line stood out in particular:

"Any revision of the threat was liable to be seized on by those who rejected HIV as the cause of the disease, or who used the disease as a weapon to stigmatise high risk groups, he said."

In other words: We couldn't tell the truth, because it might have made people think there is something wrong with homosexuality, prostitution, and drug use.

De Cock is a good scientist. I would still like a second oppinion.

The FRC should be upset about this - dont they need the threat of HIV to scare teenagers into avoiding sex?

[Jill Davidson] says:

Aids may not be pandemic in the heterosexual community but promiscuity in the culture spreads a wide variety of sexually transmited diseases.

No, its because American Christians were unable to live up to the moral standards of non-judgmental Charity as set by Christ.

Not to mention the fact that you never will see the Family Research Council condemn with equal venom and vigor the quite changeable behavior of smoking, even though it kills off many more people than AIDS. It just doesn't quite generate that sense of moral outrage that you seem addicted to. Sick, sick, sick.

Tomorrow is the one-year anniversary of my Father's passing due to lung cancer. Where were you for my family? Out looking for homosexuals to harass and condemn no doubt.

[Ed Suggs] says:

This what happens when big multinational social agencys think the general public is not capable of handling the truth. Using scare tactics on the general population for donations is a common tactic. I'm glad this article shows that the WHO is finally beginning to end this deception. Thanks for the article and lets continue to pray for those who feel trapped in unhealthy lifestyles

[Stacy Harp] says:

It's obvious the commenters before me don't like the truth, but I'm thankful that you have provided the truth to your readers now. AIDS was originally called GRID meaning Gay Related Immune Deficiency and the gay lobby had it changed to AIDS because they didn't want the world to know it was primarily a gay disease. Regardless, it is still primarily a gay disease, and history shows that.

[Suricou Raven] says:

Baring something coming to discredit the research, I can see the possibility of huge cuts in HIV-prevention funding.

It only affects forigners and gays after all - who cares?

[Bucko] says:

"there will be no worldwide AIDS pandemic among the general heterosexual population"

That is unlikely to provide comfort to millions of hetero christians with HIV in Africa.

Get real.

[Jason] says:

I think I miss the point here. Is Mr. Sprigg arguing that the scientist either lied or was wrong?

de Cock did tell the truth, and the right wing did sieze on it to bolster their argument against homosexuality. I'd say the scientist wins!

[Pat] says:

Patrick is there and epidemic of people dying from lung cancer? Is cancer sexually transmitted?
Compare apples with apples, Patrick then you have an argument or a point to make.
