I was unaware that until recently, only Hindus were allowed to adopt children in India. Thankfully, the second most populous country in the world -- and one with a huge sex-selection abortion problem -- has now opened the door for adoption to non-Hindus:
NEW DELHI, November 30 (Compass Direct News) – Ending a long era of absence of adoption rights for non-Hindus, the government has cleared the way for all religious communities in all Indian states to adopt legally.
The government of the Congress Party-led United Progressive Alliance on October 26 gave notice of new rules under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act or JJA of 2006, making room for all communities to adopt, reported national daily The Times of India on November 17.
“This has ended a long wait by the Christian community, which for many years has been urging the government to grant them the right to adopt,” a representative of the Christian Legal Association (CLA) told Compass.
Christians from almost all denominations are happy with the government’s move.
Hopefully, the increased availability of adoptive parents will be good news for survival chances of Indian girls.

An interesting point. Im not familiar with the hindu view of the afterlife, but shouldn't Christians be campaigning for a law that bans adoption for non-Christians? It sounds like discrimination, and it is, but consider this:
According to most denominations of Christianity, only Christians can be saved and go to heaven. As Christ said, 'I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, no one comes to the Father but by me.' Exactly what happens to the non-christians after death is a point of contention, but is usually agreed to be highly unpleasant, ranging from anhiliation to burning in torment for eternity.
Most children get their religion from those who raise them. Conversions are compartively rare. Christians raise Christian children, Muslims raise Muslim children, Hindus raise Hindu children, and so forth. There are exceptions to this, but its true far more often than not.
So, from the perspective of a Christian, any non-Christian parent is destroying their child's salvation - no matter how well-meaning they are. To allow a child to be adopted by non-Christian parents is to eventually condemn that child to Hell. It is simply impossible for *any* non-Christian to be a fit parent, because even if they do a perfect job of raising their child for this world they won't instill the faith needed to pass into Heaven.
Christians, then, should be doing everything they can to prevent non-Christians adoption - for the good of the children, to ensure they are raised by Christian parents. Saving souls should take priority over any concerns of political correctness, discrimination or human rights. If Christianity is true, then only Christians should be permitted to have children, and all Christians should be driven by their compassion to try to make this so.
