Two counterarguments:

1. I said it was overblown, and my argument holds regardless of the biblical position, because it was an issue of scale only. There are so many issues that effect the social role of marriage that the issue of gay marriage alone just isn't significant - in the long run, all the other effects that I listed will have far greater impact.

2. Shrimp are also an abomination to God. Perhaps, rather than blind obedience to everything in the bible, you should ask why each verse and command is included and if they are still applicable today? Times change - a biblical directive that had a purpose two thousand years ago may have no purpose today.

Spoken like a true theocrat, "Pat," especially considering the fact that couples married outside of a "biblical context" (in other words, couples not married by a priest or minister or rabbi) are (gasp!) just as legally recognized as those married inside of one.

The so called fuss over "gay marriage" or gay civil union is not overblown. According to the Bible man shall leave his mother and father and cleave to his wife. There is nothing sanctifying a "gay marriage". Marriage is a sacriment blessed by God. The so called "gay marriage" is an abomination to God. Nothing can change the word.

Another reason I think the fuss over gay marriage is overblown. Marriage is losing its significence due to far more powerful influences: More education, access to contraception, women having real career prospects, longer lifespan and the loss of the stigma that once came with divorce.
