Isn’t it interesting, not just Mr. Vitter’s hypocrisy, but the hypocrisy of his supporters? Personally, I have no problem with what Mr. Vitter did, except 1) it is a crime, and 2) he is the penultimate hypocrite.
If a person wants to purchase sex, it should be between those two people and their God, if either has one. If they don’t, so be it. But it’s Mr. Vitter and his religious sect which will make sure the oldest profession remains illegal. OK, so if you make the rules, you gotta paly by them, too!
Secondly, Mr. Vitter was voted into office on his holier-than-thou principles. It was hewho threw the stone at Mr. Clinton through is only paper-thin glass window. Unfortunately for him, the window wasn’t open, and he’s walking around barefoot on the glass he created.
If we Louisianans stand for this, we deserve to continue to be the political laughingstock of this nation.

I hope David gets back on his feet but ….he only admitted his sin when he was going to be ‘outed’. He deserves forgiveness, but his hypocracy means he SHOULD be forgiven by his god and his family but NOT BE a US Senator. What’s good enough for the goose is good enough for the gander. We tore apart Clinton who was a cheater but now we can’t complain about a senator who frequented a prostitute which is illegal ?? Lets at least be consistent in our indignation.

Excuse me, but this is not between Mr. and Mrs. Vitter and God. When the little people like most reading this blog get caught committing a crime, it is most certainly not between us, our spouses and God. I believe men who are convicted of soliciting prostitution even get put on the public sex offender list. As for Vitter, it is very much your and my business if we have a hypocritical sex addict as one of our TWO US Senators. He has fooled you more than he has fooled me, because I never voted for him.

He will be fine. He can just pull the old ‘new man’ trick. All it takes is an announcement that he is a new man, repents of his sin, and has found forgiveness in Christ. Religious conservatives are suckers for the forgiveness in Christ line. Remember Foley, that senator caught flirting online with underaged male pages? Last I heard from him, he had announced that God had ‘cured’ his homosexuality. I recall Perkins made a publication at the time welcoming him back to the flock of trustworthy campaigners for the lord, as if nothing had happened.

As for the prostitution, I find it interesting that no charges are being pressed against him, despite the fact that soliciting the services of a prostitute is very much illegal – and he has already admitted guilt. Yet the ‘DC Madam’ is being prosecuted. I don’t know if this is because of some behind-the-scenes favors or merely because the police consider his crime too minor, but there is grounds for suspicion of the former.

Sounds like Vitter was just really into hookers.

I find it strange that this man’s personal and legal transgressions immediately lead to preemptive and reactionary criticism of OTHERS. Vitter’s penchant for prostitutes should not inspire a biblically-based diatribe against Senator Kennedy.

In my opinion, whoring it up while married reveals a weak character and stains the soul. I hope Vitter loses the primary, I have no desire to see a general election about purchasing women for sexual exploit, there are too many other things worth talking about.

I always assumed that Gay marriages would destroy traditional marriages,but, it looks like conservatives are helping,I am ashamed of hypocrites that say the right things but do otherwise.At least Sen. Vitter is not Gay, or an illegal alien or something really bad like a democrat.Please give this man an opportunity to become president.He is on our side.

Here’s what Senator Vitter said in an op-ed in the Times-Picayune in 1998:

“Some current polls may suggest that people are turned off by the whole Clinton mess and don’t care — because the stock market is good, the Clinton spin machine is even better or other reasons. But that doesn’t answer the question of whether President Clinton should be impeached and removed from office because he is morally unfit to govern.”

If extra-marital sex makes one unfit to govern, what about criminal extra-marital sex? Every day Senator Vitter stays in office is more proof of his own hypocrisy.

I wanted to add that I think Tony is right – adultery is a serious matter and even though we are a sinful people, we deserve the right to take these things into consideration at the polls. I also hope to see David back on his feet.

Frank and “watcher in la” – I disagree and completely and agree with Cathy. This was between him and his wife and God! He resolved it long ago between them. Moreover, a sin is a sin in God’s eyes. A lie today or tomorrow is just as bad as Vitter’s sin in God’s eyes. Who are we to cast stones when we are all a sinful people? This is an issue for God to deal with, not man.
